Not this time either. Once again, Chattogram Royals failed to lift the trophy. Chattogram’s long wait for a BPL title continues, having previously suffered disappointment twice in the final under the name Chattogram Kings.
After losing to Fortune Barishal in the previous final, Chattogram were left to witness Rajshahi Warriors’ trophy celebrations this time around.
In the Mirpur final, captain Sheikh Mehedi Hasan’s side went down by a massive 63 runs. The moment Abdul Gaffar Saklain’s delivery resulted in Mukidul Islam Mugdho’s catch being safely taken by SM Meherob, Rajshahi’s players erupted in wild celebration. Fireworks lit up the stadium as thunderous applause from the crowd hailed the new champions.
With this victory, Rajshahi clinched their second BPL title after a gap of six years.
Back in 2019, the franchise—then known as Rajshahi Royals—won their maiden title by defeating Khulna Tigers by 21 runs. This time, under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Rajshahi returned to the summit, following in the footsteps of former West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell, who had led them to glory earlier.
Chasing a daunting target of 175, Chattogram lost their way early. Under the fiery spell of Binura Fernando, they lost three wickets for just 39 runs. The Sri Lankan left-arm pacer picked up two wickets, while Hasan Murad claimed one.
Murad later returned to rip through the batting order, finishing with two more wickets. Chattogram kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for just 111 runs. Their modest total was largely thanks to the Pakistani duo—Mirza Baig, who top-scored with 39 runs as an opener, and Asif Ali, who added 21.
Binura Fernando finished with four wickets, the best figures of the match, while Hasan Murad took three.
Earlier, Rajshahi had been powered by a batting onslaught from Tanzid Hasan Tamim. He became only the third batter in BPL history to score a century in a final. Before him, this rare feat was achieved by Chris Gayle and Tamim Iqbal—interestingly, all three are left-handed openers.
Tanzid’s blistering century guided Rajshahi to 174 for 4. The 25-year-old played a perfect innings of exactly 100 runs, striking at an impressive rate of 161.29, smashing seven sixes and six fours. His opening partner Shahibzada Farhan contributed 30 runs, the second-highest score of the innings.
For Chattogram, Shariful Islam claimed the most wickets with two. The left-arm pacer also set a new record by taking 26 wickets in a single BPL season—the highest ever—surpassing Taskin Ahmed’s previous record of 25 wickets from the last edition. However, Shariful’s personal milestone was overshadowed by his team’s defeat.
